Spero Science at the 8th CIMES and the First Meeting of the EMBRAPII USP Network
On 16 and 17 September 2026, Spero Science took part in two meetings built around the same question: how does technology developed in Brazil actually reach patients?
8th CIMES: how and for whom to develop
CIMES, the Congress on Innovation in Health Materials and Equipment organised by ABIMO, the Brazilian Medical Device Industry Association, returned in 2026 after an eight-year pause. The 8th edition took place on 16 September at the FIESP building in São Paulo, under the theme “Innovative Health Solutions: How and for whom to develop?”.
Industry, Brazil's Ministry of Health, Anvisa and EMBRAPII met across three panels: the speed of digital health innovation, the patient at the centre of innovation, and smart ecosystems. EMBRAPII joined as strategic partner, running a Technology Innovation Round that connects Brazilian medical device manufacturers directly with EMBRAPII Units.
First Meeting of the EMBRAPII USP Network
The next day, the conversation continued at the HC-FMUSP complex, at the First Meeting of the EMBRAPII USP Network, attended by EMBRAPII president Alvaro Prata and Prof. Giovanni Guido Cerri, chair of the boards of InovaHC, InRad and ICOS.
HC-FMUSP now hosts its own accredited unit, the EMBRAPII InovaHC – Digital Health Unit, focused on artificial intelligence and digital health solutions.

Why it matters for Spero
A medical device developed in Brazil needs clinical, regulatory and industrial validation at the same time; when one is missing, the project stalls at the prototype. The EMBRAPII model was designed to share the risk of that pre-competitive stage with industry, connecting companies to accredited research institutions.
Spero Science works the same way. We are a translational biotech born within the USP / HC-FMUSP ecosystem, organised in five verticals under Spero Holding.
Spero Science AI: clinical decision support for musculoskeletal health.
Chondroinductive Molecule: an injectable therapeutic for cartilage regeneration.
Smart Cells: cell therapy.
Spero OrthoTech: equipment and materials for orthopaedic surgery.
Scholars in Medical Innovation: health innovation education.

Who we want to talk to
We are open to co-development partnerships with orthopaedic implant and instrument makers, medical device and medtech companies, and research hospitals interested in clinical validation. Write to info@spero-science.com.
